ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (WFLA) — Construction crews in Florida unearthed a shipwreck from the 19th century while working on a road project in downtown St. Augustine last week. According to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), crews discovered the nearly intact wooden vessel while working on State Road A1A near the Bridge of Lions for a draining improvement project that began earlier this year.FDOT archeologists and experts believe the well-preserved boat is from the mid-to-late 1800s.Artifacts found inside the wreck were mixed into the sediment and shells that buried it, as well as in a thin layer of mud that coated the hull. A wooden handle and the remains of a leather shoe are shown here as excavated. (KTLA) -- Suzanne Somer's husband, Alan Hamel, gave the beloved actress a heartfelt poem just hours before she passed away Sunday, PEOPLE reported. Hamel posted the poem, along with three photos, on Somers' Instagram account on Monday, which would have been his wife's 77th birthday. Somer's publicist, R. Couri Hay, told PEOPLE that Hamel gave it to her "a day early and she read the poem and went to bed and later died peacefully in her sleep.”"Love," he started the poem with. "There is no version of the word love that is applicable to Suzanne.""The closest version in words isn’t even close. It’s not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. Unconditional love does not do it. I’ll take a bullet for you doesn’t do it," he continued. "I weep when I think about my feelings for you. Feelings… that’s getting close, but not all the way." (The Hill) -- CNN anchor Boris Sanchez fired back at Rep. Keith Self (R-Texas) in a Monday interview after the House Republican suggested President Biden was to blame for the chaos in the House around electing a new Speaker.“Well, the chaos today is because of the weakness in the Biden administration,” Self said, responding to a question about how he thinks authoritarian leaders perceive Congress’s inability to elect a Speaker. “How? It’s your party,” Sanchez responded, cutting Self off. “It’s members of your party that ousted Kevin McCarthy.”Self continued, citing unrelated issues Biden has dealt with during his presidency that Self suggested demonstrated Biden’s “weakness.”“The southern border is absolutely in chaos. The inflation that is—,” he said, before he was cut off again. House Speaker vote slated for Tuesday, Democratic Rep. says “Congressman,” Sanchez said, “Respectfully, the reason the House doesn’t have a Speaker is not because of Joe Biden. MONTREAL — Eight years younger than Marc-Andre Fleury, fellow Quebecer Freddie Gaudreau was 16 years old when Fleury won his first Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009.Asked Monday if he had any memories from childhood of watching his teammate play, Gaudreau laughed.“Oh, yeah,” he said. “He’s a legend.”Especially in Quebec, where the veteran goaltender will make his season debut for the Wild on Tuesday against the Canadiens at Bell Centre, officially starting his 20th NHL season with his 986th start. It also might be his last in his home province.Fleury made his NHL debut with five games in 2007. Since then, there have been 544 victories — third all time and counting — and three Stanley Cup championships. He is eight wins from passing Patrick Roy for second place in career victories for a goaltender, and 15 games from being the fourth NHL goalie to play 1,000 games.“He’s a legend in the hockey world,” said Gaudreau, who hails from Bromont, Quebec, “and then you come to Q...Few Republicans have confidence in elections. SUAMICO, Wis. — Kim Pytleski could barely sleep the night before. She replayed the PowerPoint slides in her head, packed her notebook and took a deep breath. The clerk from a rural Wisconsin county north of Green Bay was preparing for a public meeting to explain the election process to residents. She didn’t know who she would encounter. Would some deny the results of the last presidential election? Would the conversation get combative? Most importantly, would she get through to anyone? They were questions Pytleski never expected to ask herself when she started the job in Oconto County more than 14 years ago. But since then, election conspiracy theories have taken root in the rural, heavily Republican county in northeastern Wisconsin. It’s among large swaths of the country where distrust of voting and ballot-counting, fanned by former President Donald Trump’s false claims of a stolen election, maintains a stubborn grasp.Pytleski, who was born and raised in the county, hears consp...Wisconsin Supreme Court is asked to redraw legislative boundaries created by Republicans

Democratic voters in Wisconsin hoping to undo Republican-drawn legislative district maps told the liberal-controlled state Supreme Court on Monday that it should create new maps by March — forcing every lawmaker to stand for election under redrawn lines in 2024.“The current maps are unsalvageable,” attorneys for the voters argued. But Republicans who control the Legislature in Madison countered that Democrats were exercising “raw political power” and trying to take advantage of the new liberal majority on the court to overturn its 2021 ruling that adopted the current maps.“A change in this Court’s membership cannot justify overturning that precedent,” attorneys for the Legislature wrote in legal filings. Oral arguments are set for Nov. 21.Democratic Gov. Tony Evers has intervened on the side of voters asking the court to toss out the Republican-drawn maps, widely seen as among the most gerrymandered in the country, and draw new ones ahead of the 2024 election.Republicans have been in...Is crime going up in America? The Denver Police Department became the first agency in Colorado and third in the nation to receive an accreditation from Out to Protect for its LGBTQ liaison program, the advocacy organization recently announced. The accreditation will last for three years and will require the agency to annually self-report on how it is upholding the standards set by the organization, founded to create awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people working in law enforcement nationwide.Denver police Lt. Michelle Folmar, who leads the department’s LGBTQ liaison program, completed the training academy to earn the accreditation for the department. The Broncos’ 19-8 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football was another stain on quarterback Russell Wilson’s legacy in Denver. He threw for 95 yards — third-fewest in his career — a touchdown and two interceptions as the Broncos struggled to establish their passing game, despite the defense holding up its end.“To win in our league, you have to be better at throwing the ball,” coach Sean Payton said following Denver’s 16th straight loss to its divisional foe.On Monday, Payton clarified that his comment wasn’t directed at any one player but on the entire offense, and he’s right. The Broncos’ last two losses to the New York Jets and Kansas City have exposed issues within the passing offense, from play calling and protection to lack of production from wide receivers and Wilson.“You want to have confidence in the pocket, and we need to find ways to get guys open,” Payton said. “Typically speaking, that has to happen efficiently on early downs. It can’t be just on third down.”E...Latest news
