France's parliament voted with a large majority in favour of the government's plan for nuclear investment on Tuesday (21 March). This vote came just days after the government narrowly survived a non-confidence vote on its pension reform plan. With 402 votes for and 130 against, the nuclear renewal plan was approved. Its key component is the construction of six more nuclear reactors. 278 lawmakers supported an opposition-led motion of no confidence on Monday. This was nine votes shy of the 287 required to bring down the government.Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne tweeted: "After the Senate last Month, the lower house tonight by a large majority voted for the nuclear plan...the result of a co-construction, which aims to combat climate change and ensure our energy sovereignty."After his government almost collapsed over the pension reform plan and his government was forced to resign, President Emmanuel Macron wants to regain the initiative through new reforms within the next weeks. DEAR MISS MANNERS: I am the manager of a gift store where my clientele mostly ranges from 40 to 70 years old. I have an employee in her early 20s who is sweet, super helpful and professionally courteous — everything you’d want in a worker. She has her own unique style, and changes her hair with fun colors or highlights; right now it’s a very pretty shade of light green.Several customers have made inappropriate comments to her about it, including laughing. One woman pointed at my employee, saying to her daughter, “See? I told you she had green hair. Isn’t that nuts?”My employee takes it in stride, smiling through it all, but I feel terrible. I’ve wanted to say something to these customers, but I don’t want to lose their business. Nor can I afford to lose my employee.I’m not sure what I can say to get them to stop being so rude to a human being in public.Related ArticlesAdvice | Miss Manners: Should I call people to expla...Dear Abby: My wonderful relationship has gone bad, and I’m scared

PARIS — The EU has robust banking safeguards in place to protect its lenders against the prospect of a new crisis, the European Commission’s economic chief said Thursday, adding that additional rules are also around the corner.“From a supervisory point of view, we are not in a vacuum,” Paolo Gentiloni said at POLITICO’s Finance Summit after UBS bailed out its Swiss rival Credit Suisse, raising fears that a crisis born in the U.S. was spreading to Europe. “We are, I think, supervising our banking system in a very effective way.”But improvements can still be made. EU legislators have been unable to agree on a shared deposit insurance system to back up national cash pots. As a compromise, eurozone finance ministers have called on the Commission to propose measures that will close loopholes in bank crisis management and deposit insurance (CMDI).“The Commission will do it in the second quarter of this year,” the Italian said after the proposal had disappeared from the legislative agenda ...Woman accused of attacking Lynn police before rough arrest set to face a judge
