Michael Porter Jr. ejected, Nikola Jokic’s triple-double streak broken in loss to Spurs

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:31:57 GMT

After Michael Porter Jr. put Zach Collins on a poster, the Nuggets competed like the Spurs had already been knocked out.Instead, San Antonio stunned the visiting Nuggets on Friday night, dropping them 128-120, for the Spurs’ 17th victory of the season. For the first time all season, a Nikola Jokic triple-double didn’t equate to a win.Jokic finished with 37 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for his 26th triple-double of the season, but San Antonio’s bench obliterated Denver’s second unit, and the Spurs owned the Nuggets on the glass, 50-33.As usually happens, the more physical team won. Even though Porter’s emphatic finish over Collins (and the subsequent skirmish that led to both ejections) showed some fight, the Nuggets were underwhelming in their urgency. Now 46-21, they’ll head to Denver carrying a two-game losing streak and a date with Brooklyn on Sunday. Here’s what mattered vs. the Spurs. The record is his: Following Jamal Murray’s frustrating night against the Bulls on Wednesd...

He went on a scoring spree to give the Kadets the lead at half with 15 straight second-quarter points en route to a game-high 27.“I had a terrible game last game, and I had something to prove that I wasn’t the player I showed in the Great 8,” Garver said. “I was bad from the field (with a season-low eight points on 3-of-13 shooting), and I wasn’t mentally locked in. But this game, I knew it was going to be different. I brought it.”The Kadets had three other players score in double-digits to surge into Saturday’s title game at the Denver Coliseum. Air Academy is seeking its third state championship to add to a Class 4A title in 2015 and 3A crown in 1989. The Kadets will take on the winner of Friday night’s game between Mesa Ridge and Windsor.“I don’t know going in who’s going...

The face of desperation was the face of the Miami Heat on Friday night when they went down 14 in the third quarter. It turned out to be a good look, or at least a needed look, one that will be further necessary in the heated middle of the Eastern Conference playoff race.Forced to take on some of the best of Donovan Mitchell, the Heat made a needed stand in a 119-115 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers to salvage a 3-3 homestand,“We’re fighting for our competitive lives right now,” coach Erik Spoelstrs said after the season’s latest nail-biter. “Is this the position we want to be in now? No. But this is what you want, you want games with incredible pressure and context.”While work remains to get out of an Eastern Conference play-in seed and into one of the six automatic playoff seeds in the East, this was a night when the Heat stared down adversity when it was casting its ugliest face.A loss would have trimmed the Heat’s lead at No. 7 in the ...
